Vietnam and Switzerland are set to deepen their longstanding diplomatic relationship and enhance cooperation in multiple sectors, including trade, investment, and technology. This was emphasized during a recent event in Bern marking Vietnam’s National Day and the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Nguyễn Thị Thanh, Vice President of Vietnam’s National Assembly, underscored the importance Vietnam places on its relations with Switzerland. She highlighted Switzerland’s historical support and the progress made in bilateral ties across various fields such as politics, education, and people-to-people exchanges. Thanh noted Vietnam’s intent to strengthen political trust and expand economic collaboration, drawing on Switzerland’s expertise in innovation and technology.

Economic relations remain a cornerstone of the partnership, with annual trade between the two countries surpassing $2 billion. Over 100 Swiss companies have established a presence in Vietnam, investing in sectors like pharmaceuticals, food processing, and watchmaking. Swiss Senator Mauro Poggia acknowledged the growth in cooperation since Vietnam’s economic reforms, crediting Switzerland’s support for Vietnam’s sustainable development efforts.

Looking ahead, Vietnamese Ambassador to Switzerland Châu Mai Anh pointed to significant upcoming milestones, such as the establishment of a Comprehensive Partnership in 2025 and the finalization of a free trade agreement with the European Free Trade Association. Both nations see potential for further collaboration in areas such as digital transformation, sustainable development, and finance.
